Black Soup

2009/May/18

“And now comes the black soup.”

In Hungarian, this saying refers to a forthcoming negative incident. It has a supposed origin in the times of the Ottoman-Turkish Occupation of Hungary.

The anecdote says that a Turkish lord invited a Hungarian lord to a dinner. The Turks regularly drank coffee (“black soup” as they said) after the meal. When the guest finished his meal and wanted to leave, the Turk said: “Do not go, the black soup is yet to come”. That was a password for his servants to rush into the room and capture his guest.

A Brief Intro to Contemporary English

2009/May/17

For some time, I’ve been trying to sum up a not-so-brief intro about my linguistical (mis)adventures in the misty Albion. I uploaded the beta version for your edification. You can find it on the sidebar, or simply bookmark this page.

Comments are welcome but please keep in mind that it is a work-in-progress. Any spelling and grammatical mistakes are wholly intentional. :)
